Dear friends,

   We are honored to welcome you all to the official website of the 12th APRU Doctoral Students Conference (APRU DSC). The 12th APRU DSC will be held in Tsinghua University, Beijing, China during July 4th – July 7th, 2011.

   The APRU DSC has always been a major international academic event. Ever since 2000, brilliant doctoral students from APRU universities gather every year in DSC to explore a range of issues, share their insights and search answers for problems worldwide. Since the very beginning, APRU DSC has never ceased to be a fascinating and inspiring experience for its participants, not only because of the dynamic academic exchanges among a talented diverse student body, but also of a series of social events that enables the participants to personally savor the culture of the hosting country.

   In 2011, Tsinghua University will welcome approximately 130 doctoral students from the 42 universities of APRU and several other universities to the 12th DSC. Participants whose abstracts are accepted will have the opportunity join their peers in Beijing, to present their research findings in paper sessions; to bask in the friendly ambiance when having an intellectual exchange with the prestigious keynote speakers; to engage in communication and discussion of the up-to-date development in their research field from a interdisciplinary perspective in special workshops designed by students. Moreover, they can also enjoy wondrous adventures beyond conference rooms in the ancient city of Beijing, to get in touch with her glorious history and modern metropolitan charm.

    The main theme of the 12th DSC is “Innovation: Fostering Sustainable Development and Harmony among Pacific Rim communities”. To allow for better comprehension of the main theme, we have suggested 6 sub-themes which cover a span of disciplines: 1) promoting human development through inclusive growth; 2) innovation of science and technology; 3) globalization and international cooperation; 4) maintaining sustainable development through education, culture and art; 5) life sciences and health; 6) youth’s responsibilities and leadership.     2011 is an auspicious year for Tsinghua University. Besides having the privilege of hosting the 12th APRU DSC, Tsinghua University also welcomes her 100th birthday in April, 2011. After a century, Tsinghua University is now at its peak of beauty and brilliance. Many buildings will have been renovated and the campus will be decorated with blooming lotus in July. We believe this special anniversary will make your trip to Beijing all the more memorable.
